Marian Smit puts the physical first in her work. Intimacy and desire play an important role in her paintings, one of the reasons why she likes to work with rubber latex. Rubber latex is a warm and flexible material that is reminiscent of skin. This “skin of rubber ” enhances the intimate atmosphere of the paintings.
